VIF Program

Host an International ESL Teacher

VIF teachers of English as a second language serve many roles in the classroom. They are practitioners of patience, knowing the time it takes to master a second language. They are role models to students, having personally experienced what it is like to be from another country. And to many families, VIF teachers are outreach ambassadors, helping parents new to the U.S. gain comfort and become more involved in their new school communities.

All VIF teachers are deemed Highly Qualified under the federal No Child Left Behind Act. Contact VIF to view all available ESL teachers.

Meet Pamela Arrarás

Country: Argentina
Teaches in Guilford County Schools, North Carolina

Pamela Arrarás, who teaches students learning English as a second language, works closely with classroom teachers at Southeast Guilford Middle School. She works diligently to meet with each student’s classroom teacher to discuss strategies to maximize ESL students' understanding and participation in the mainstream classroom.

Arrarás, a third-term VIF teacher from Argentina, also shares her South American culture with the students and staff at Southeast. She set up a bulletin board display, created PowerPoint presentations about her homeland and posted common Argentine words and phases throughout the school. Arrarás started with small efforts to create a globally minded school, and now, the school wouldn't be the same without her.
