But at Spring Creek Elementary School in rural N.C., parents of the school's ESL students – 40 percent of the school's enrollment – seemed less involved in their children's educations. Elementary principal brings big-city experiences to rural students

CHALLENGE: The socio-economic status of many students in rural Hoke County often limits their opportunities to travel. Still, a veteran educator wanted to inspire in her students a curiosity about the world outside of small-town Raeford.
